Which CD recorders are supported?

RSJ CD-Writer supports about any current CD recorder(ATAPI or SCSI-MMC). If in doubt if your recorder is supported, just download the 30 day demo version and give it a try.

I encounter strange and unreproducable errors and system crashes while working with the recorder.

Often this happens because the SCSI adapter uses synchronous transfer with the recorder. Please make absolutely sure that this does not happen. In moste cases it is a goood idea to prevent this for CDROM drives, too. Some SCSI adapters automatically choose the right transfer mode, some require you to adjust this setting manually (i.e. Adaptec: press Ctrl+A during system boots to change this option). BUT: No rule without exception. Teacs CDR 50S and 55S require synchronous transfer!

Are pauses between audio tracks avoidable (Disk-at-Disk)?

RSJ CD Writer does support Disk At Once mode for most of the MMC and ATAPI compatible recorders.

Can I create single track CDs using the RSJ CD Writer Filesystem?

No. Due to the nature of our CD Writer file system one track has to be reserved for the primary volume descriptor, this track is written when the session is finalized. If you want to copy data CDs into a single track on the target CD, you can use CD View instead. CD View creates a 1:1 copy of the source CD; this also applies to the number of tracks on the target CD.

Why do some CD ROM drives read audio tracks with single speed?

Some CDROM drives only support single speed for reading audio tracks, This is a hardware specific limitation.

My CD is not copied at the speed I expected.

Most of CD-RW’s are copied with 2x speed. Some can be copied with a higher speed. Here it depends on the medium. If you write to a CD-R, you can choose the speed. The software checks the speed and reduces it, if it thinks it’s necessary.

When I copy audio tracks from my Philips CDD2600 to the hard disk some tracks contain errors.

This is due to an hardware malfunction of the CDD2600. This model usually copies the first tracks ok, while later tracks contain errors. To avoid this, you have to adjust single reading(1x). To do so, adjust the recording speed in the target CD View window(not in the one for the CDD2600)to "1x".

How do I erase a CDRW?

Erase the CD-RW by opening the context menu of the drive and choosing "Blank CD". Please note that you can only delete the whole CD-RW.

How do I copy a track from the command line?

Use the command TRACKCPY -COPY E: 1 D: -finalize d: -quit

How can I create a CD from an ISO image?

Simply drag the ISO file to the recorder’s CD View window and start recording. This procedure is the same as with WAV and other audio files.

I always get the error log messages "Illegal Request" and "Command Sequence Error".

In this case please reduce the writing speed and try it again with a new medium.

The OS/2 version of RSJ CD Writer is more expensive than the Windows 95 version. How come?

Since the window market is remarkably larger than the OS/2 market, we expect to sell more Windows 95 versions. Both versions require a high amount of effort for both maintenance and further development due to the high level of OS integration. These facts have to result in a lower price for the Windows 95 version.

The OS/2 version addresses rather professional users. The OS/2 version contains, for example, a programming interface so you can create your own applications to completely control our file system.

Finally, the prices for both versions are within a range common to their market.

FAQ Liste RSJ CD Writer for OS/2

After I installed RSJ CD Writer, the recorder is not in the Drives folder anymore.

Most or all current CD recorders identify themselves as a CDROM drive during system boot. This causes the OS/2 CDROM driver to obtain exclusive access to the drive and to prevent other file systems, such as our CD Writer file system, to gain access to it. Therefore, our software contains the driver LOCKCDR.FLT that changes the SCSI id of supported recorders to WORM (write once, read multiple) so the CDROM driver leaves the drive alone. Instead, you can attach the drive to our file system (using cdattach, or, versions 2.5x and higher CD Writer Control). After doing so, the recorder receives a drive letter, becomes accessible and appears in the Drives folder (versions prior to 2.5x display the recorder as a network drive, while 2.5x displays a recorder drive.)

Why is CD View unable to read audio tracks from my CDROM drive?
(Error message: unsupported IOCTL function)

This problem can have several causes:

However, you always have the possibility to use the recorder to copy audio tracks to a hard disk. When done, you can copy the tracks back to the recorder.

How do I create a bootable OS/2 CD?

To create a bootable CD you do need a virtuell 2.88 diskette like SVDISK from Hobbes or http://www.bmtmicro.com and CD_BOOT.ZIP from Hobbes or http://www.os2bbs.com.
Please do the following:

Please find further information concerning bootable CDS at http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0700H/vnewsf2.htm.

How can I avoid the change of a CD-ROM drive?

In order to avoid the change of a CD-ROM drive, the parameter –s <number of the drive> can be used to skip ad drive. To do so check the output of LOCKCDR. Check which drive do you like to use as CD-ROM. Check the number of the drive (the first drive is 0, the second listed drive 1…). Now change CONFIG.SYS. Locate BASEDEV=LOCKCDR.FLT and include –s <drive number> for each drive LOCKCDR should ignore, i.e. LOCKCDR should leave as CD-ROM or DVD.

Although I finalized the session without encountering errors, the CD is unreadable.

If you are using the Adaptec 2940 controller, make sure you use the driver that shipped with OS/2 Warp; versions 2.x and higher of that driver often cause this problem.

How do I finalize a data CD from the command line?

Finalize the session with CDATTACH –S.

How do I finalize an audio CD from the command line?

Use the command TRACKCPY finalize CDR:

My CD recorder cannot be found or there is a system trap during boot.

Please inactivate the autodetect with the option –N at LOCKCDR. Add ‘-i:”ID_OF_YOUR_RECORDER”’ to the LOCKCDR.FLT call in your CONFIG.SYS file. Add your recorder to the CDDRV.INF and reboot your system.

Are you continuing the development and maintenance of the OS/2 version?

The answer is YES!

How do I finalize a data CD from the command line?

Why is the recorder door sometimes locked?

Everytime the recorder is accessed via our file system (CDWIFS) - this often happens unintended by the user (file open/save dialogs, Explorer,...) - the recorder door is locked by the file system. This happens to make sure that

If the door is locked and you want to eject the CD, choose the "Release CD" command in the recorder context menu. If the CD inserted is modified, you will be prompted to finalize the current session first. So there is no risk of data loss here.
